Meeting #8 - Note to Parents

We have earned the orange daisy petal (which will be presented at the next ceremony)!

While waiting for some of the girls to finish their snacks, we learned how to play the game “Daisy to Daisy”. The girls seemed to like this game, so we will try to incorporate when time permits.

We opened the meeting with our usual routine by saying the promise and singing the Girl Scouts song. We reviewed the flowers we have met so far:

• Lupe the lupine, who taught us about being honest and fair
• Sunny the sunflower, who taught us about being friendly and helpful
• Zinni the zinnia, who taught us about being considerate and caring
• Tula the tulip, who taught us about being courageous and strong
• Gloria the morning glory, who taught us about respecting myself and others

Then we read a story about Mari the marigold, the orange daisy petal. With Mari we learned about being "Responsible for What I Say and Do". After a group discussion we divided into 2 teams. Each team came up with, and presented a skit about how we can be responsible for what we say and do, like keeping our word (when we say we will do our homework before we play, we should keep our word and finish the homework first). The girls liked being in charge of the skit, and it was the consensus that they would like to do skits again.

The craft was very simple this week. We asked the girls to draw a self portrait, just a face of a happy, smiling girl. Some girls were very detailed with their pictures. We certainly have artists in our troop! When we were all finished, we meet at the rug and asked the girls to crumble up the paper, and then try to straighten it flat again. We all noticed that the wrinkles did not go away. The lesson was that even though there was a smile on the outside (of the girl on the paper), mean words can leave a mark. Then we took turns saying nice things to each other.

We closed the meeting with the friendship circle and squeeze.
