Girl Scouts Troop # 11638: Town Encampment 2012

Town encampment was from Friday 5/4 till Sunday 5/6. Daisies were invited to join on Saturday for the day (8:30 to 4PM). two of our girls represented our troop. The theme this year was the 100th Year Anniversary of Girl Scouts. (lots of pictures below)

8:15AM we arrived for registration.
8:30AM we made a huge circle for the opening ceremony.
Then we broke into groups and participated in 6 sessions through out the day (with a lunch in between). Sessions included:

Boating,
Ice scream making,
SWAPS making (making little keepsakes to trade with other friends),
Team building activities,
Scavenger hunt,
Make your troop banner,
and other activities.

At 4:30PM we had a closing ceremony, where each troop was able to add something to a time capsule which will be buried to be opened by troops in 100 years. There was also a parade where the troops showed off the banners they created.

We were able to come back @ 7:30PM and participate in the camp fire sing along. Each troop had a chance to present a skit or sing a song. Our girls were the only daisies at the camp fire, so a Brownie troop kindly offered to go up to present a song with them. We learned lots of Girl Scouts songs!

The same brownie troop invited us to join them at their camp site for a tour, and to make smores and smocos. (smoco is a smore inside a tortilla, wrapped in aluminum foil and heated in the fire)

The older girls staying the night (2nd grade and up) either slept in very large tents with small beds, or in one of the lodges. All leaders participating in the encampment had to take several classes in order to bring their troop.

It was a long day that went by very fast, the girls had a great time. I was supper impressed with the organization, cleanliness, how well all of the girls behaved, and leadership in this event. All of the girls participating (little daisies to high school girls) seemed to be having the time of their lives and pretty proud of being a girl scouts!
